Two very different entryways

The traveller's palms were only $125/ea field grown, at a nursery closeout sale. Once they were
established with irrigation, and the understory plants were also, irrigation was shut off. Still, the
effect is like an oasis, and provides a dramatic transition zone from the hot, noisy, busy street
just outside the gate. This "tunnel" is approximately150' long.

I started using this "triad" of design elements  - the king and queen sagos and the giant liriope - about
12 years ago. The textures and harmonious cultural requirements -- little irrigation, fertilizer or spraying --
make this an ideal design and maintenance package.

Cacti and succulents create a visually interesting path to the front door

Xeriscape cacti and succulent garden in south Dade.  Large, rare cacti and succulents provide
accent points in the majestic sweep of color and texture.

Simple, elegant sprays of bougainvillia -- Xeriscape

Fragrant, useful Herbal border -- curry plant, rosemary,  garlic chives, tropical tarragon,  fragipani, roses, miniature guava, pentas. true cardamom, red banana, galangal,  tuberose.           (not all visible in this photo). Xeriscape principles at work -- rarely need water because the plants are grouped by water needs.
A tropical version of an English border garden.
This border is now two years old and very lush. An
updated photo will be added to this page soon.

Just for fun -- thought you'd like to see one of my more unique projects. The Mylin IV is the privately-owned seafaring  home of the owners of a major cruise line. They spend 8 months at a time in different locales. Run like a 4-star hotel.
